About EMS Norway

Behind the national ambulance championship stands the interest organization EMS Norway

Emergency Medical Services Norway (EMS Norway) is an independent interest organization for the Norwegian ambulance service and was founded in 2015. The association was established as a common banner for prehospital services, where public and private actors, organizations, and relevant professional and training institutions can take part.

Our objectives:

  • Create a broad learning environment for continuous self-training, professional updating, communication, and team training.
  • Promote professional pride and identity among employees in prehospital services.
  • Be a unifying actor for professional and competence development within prehospital emergency medicine and a driving force for establishing national treatment standards.

Thomas Vik Renngård
Chair of the Board

Paramedic and chief union representative at Oslo University Hospital, Chair of the Norwegian First Aid Council, board member of the Norwegian Association for Traumatology, Emergency and Disaster Medicine (NOTAK), editor of the professional journal TRIAGE, former project manager at NAKOS, and founder of EMS Norway.

Deputy Chair

Secretary General of the Norwegian First Aid Council, paramedic at Oslo University Hospital, Chair of Ambulanseforum, and former senior adviser at NAKOS.

Svein Arne Strømsodd
Board Member

Ambulance worker at Sykehuset Innlandet, Hamar ambulance station, with further education in prehospital emergency medicine and operational ambulance work. Previous experience from FSAN and FORF, and engaged in professional development and mentoring apprentices.

Hege Ree Årstad
Board Member

Ambulance worker and incident commander at Helse Stavanger HF, former professional coordinator and facilitator, part-time student in the PHCC master’s program at UiS.

Anita Nordås Kildahl
Board Member

Intensive care nurse in general intensive care, previously in neonatal intensive care at OUS. Ambulance worker for Nordland Hospital and course leader for Akuttgruppen.

Sissel Tønnesen
Board Member

Paramedic on ambulance and emergency doctor’s car at Helse Fonna HF. Passionate about prehospital emergency medicine and professional development. Outside everyday work, time is spent on training, travel, family, and the dogs at home.
